Fall Oreo

We are into winter now but I ran into this picture of Oreo while looking through my pics and thought you might enjoy it as much as I do. While not real obvious the larch have turned color on the background peaks Liberty Bell. Definitely a great time of the year to be out.

What starts a ski season sooner than 6 inches of fresh snow? Oreo wearing his Goretex suit for the fresh wet snow.

3rd Ski Season

Started the 3rd ski season today. First one is in the fall before the locals start grooming, the second one is when the locals start grooming and the 3rd one is after they stop grooming. Nice warm day on corn snow, started out sunny then started raining after we got back in the rig.

A Beautiful Day in the Hood

We like to take a cross country ski trip every year someplace we've never been before. This year Oreo and I went to Mount Hood right after a big snow storm that lasted several days while we were there. Fresh powder snow every day. Can you beat that? Here is Oreo on the one sunny day of the week we spent in the Hood.

March! Calendar Picture

Here are the boys in the SE Oregon Desert country on a March week long car camping and hiking trip. Its pretty unusual to catch them both together with their faces up and smiling.

Mr. February 2023

Kimchi (Tommy) on a ridge above the Methow Valley backdropped by North Gardner Peak. This area is teaming with rattlesnakes in the summer so we have to go early in the year so we don't encounter them. Some years with high snow levels we might not be able to make it to this ridge.

Hard Snow

Lots of dry powder, then it warmed up, rained and now lots of hard snow. The dogs love it, us skiers not so much. But who cares about us when the dogs are having so much fun, eh?

January Rockstar

I produce a yearly calendar of the dogs and the photo for January is Oreo sporting sparkling snow chrystals on a sunny day!

Snow Beard

Winter has arrived and the snow dog is sporting a snowbeard.

Remember Cinder

Cinder was a malamute we adopted many years ago from the Lewis and Clark Humane Society in Helena Montana. There was a 160 malamute seizure in Montana from a breeder who had that many dogs and had no help taking care of them. 160 malamutes, 18 pregnant females, and 80 of the dogs were classified as emaciated meaning no fat tissue and loss of muscle. She was pretty shy and a fear biter but not really bad on the biting. She ended up with us and grew out of her shell becoming one of the sweetest dogs I've ever lived with. I ran into these pictures of her and thought I would post them. They are from a ski trip into the foothills of the Alaska Range. She is long gone now but great dog.

Mr. Oreo

Oreo on one of our recent hikes. A cool spring has made temperatures to Oreo's liking with lots of snow pockets around and oodles of it up high.

Schnow!

Its been a cold April. Here and there snow falls and then melts off. Yesterday we had gotten 4 inches so I went out hiking with the dogs who love the stuff. So lucky to have an extra month of snow for the snow dogs.

Desert Time!

Its that time of year to visit the desert. Not too hot, not too much snow and no rattlesnakes. Easy hiking in the sage.

Snow Dog

Oreo is a snow dawg through and through. The first thing he does when he launches into it is gets the zoomies. Its his element. He thinks a snow pillow is the best bed in the world

Oreo's Rock

Yep, Oreo has a rock named after him. We started hiking in this meadow up in the mountains when it was so hot down in the valley. From our first visit Oreo hopped on the rock to look around. It seems every visit he jumped on the rock, any time of the year. Summer or Winter, its his place to be.
